This aims to consider the question – how well do major media companies/news services cover science?
The first report in the series is comprised of a content analysis of news reports about 165 scholarly studies in The New York Times, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Post focused on the coverage of new scientific discoveries 2015-2017. The general conclusion is that the new stories tend to misrepresent the scientific process as linear and evolutionary rather than one of disagreements and false starts.
