International Youth Day

12th August was designated International Youth Day by the UN General Assembly in 1999.

To commemorate it here are several resources.

• End of childhood
  The Save the Children report, Stolen Childhoods. The report has found that in 2017 1.2 billion childhoods were threatened by conflict, poverty and gender discrimination.
• Political participation/Engagement
  UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs resources on Youth produce a biennial World Youth report.   It focuses mainly on young people’s participation in economic, political and community life.
• Employment/Poor pay
  ILO publishes an annual report on youth employment.  It is also part of The Global Initiative on Decent Jobs for Youth is the first-ever, comprehensive United Nations system-wide effort for the promotion of youth employment worldwide.  You can also explore their website to find key resolutions and documents relating to low pay and employment problems of young people.
  
• Health risks
  WHO has information on adolescent health risk and teenage pregnancy
  
• Access to education
  UNESCO publishes the GEM Global Education Monitoring reports  which monitor progress towards the education targets in the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework.
  The United Nations Girls Education Initiative has reports on problems girls face in accessing education worldwide.
