The Freedom of the Press Foundation launched in November 2017 a collection on Archive.it where they aim to preserve independent news services which have been threatened by multinational large corporation ownership. At the moment they only have 2 titles but it is intended that this will grow due to the media ownership environment.
They include L.A. Weekly which Archive.it describes as ‘a free alternative paper publishing since 1978. In late 2017, it was sold to Semanal Media, LLC, a company created solely for that purpose and which did not initially disclose its investors.’
