Why it is important? Because According to the National Autistic Society around Around 700,000 people may be autistic. Aside from the social and emotional costs a recent report by LSE staff found high economic costs. The aggregate national costs of supporting children with ASD were estimated to be £2.7 billion each year. For adults, the aggregate costs amount to £25 billion each year.
