The UK government has launched a new public health site to provide citizens with easily accessible data about premature death and mortality rates: http://longerlives.phe.org.uk/
It has national rankings of premature death by local authority, with breakdowns for major killers such as cancer, heart and lung disease. There are also links to data on socio-economic deprivation.
For further information try the European Detailed Mortality Database (DMDB) which contains mortality data by cause of death, age and sex, submitted to the WHO by the European Union Members and the global Who mortality database.
