Shocking news this week that the Ministry of Justice has recorded high levels of suicide in prison and an internal enquiry will be launched. The Howard League has said that 2016 was the worst year ever. This follows a recent inquest report which found failings lead to the death of Dean Saunders in HMP Chelmsford.
Recent trends can be traced in the Quarterly Safety in Custody data from the Ministry of Justice which records incidents of self-harm and injury .
