Interesting report this week from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation which examines the cost to UK public services budgets of citizens suffering poverty. This includes welfare benefits and costs to the NHS. Its figure is a shocking £69 billion with ‘about £1 in every £5 spent on public services’ going to help those living in poverty.
The Child Poverty Action Group has conducted similar research relating to child poverty. Its website has breakdowns at a local authority level.
