The African Online Digital Library is a collaborative project between MATRIX, the Center for Digital Humanities and Social Sciences, the African Studies Center, and universities and cultural heritage organizations in Africa. It is a portal to multimedia collections about Africa. It provides a single site access to 16 collections of high quality electronic materials covering African history, politics and culture. Particular highlights are:
- the African Activist Archive which covers American Activism for Africa in the 20th century. It has oral histories, ephemera and writings from Anti-apartheid campaigners
- the Community Video education trust has short films documenting the struggle against apartheid in South Africa
- the African oral narratives has oral and life histories, folklore, and songs from Ethiopia, Ghana, and South Africa
Also available via the site are links to eJournals and other collections of oral history and folklore covering all regions of Africa.
