The Socialist and Communist Pamphlets digital collection
New in 2017 from the University of Houston, the collection includes 40 socialist, communist, and anarchist pamphlets from a larger collection of radical political pamphlets held by them. Covers 1872-1920s and includes the Russian revolution. See this great example celebrating the first year of the Russian revolution which has marvelous text and images.
The British Library has a new exhibition opening on the Russian Revolution the @BL_European has been tweeting images of objects so it is worth following.
Of course a great library for recent and classic full-text communist works is the Marxist Internet Archive and in the UK the Marx Memorial library has a specialist collection and is currently working to digitise historic issues of the Morning star and Daily Worker. The period they are covering is that excluded by commercial digital services – the early 1950s
Finally if you are planning a holiday explore Europeana’s exhibition of vintage picture postcards from South Eastern Europe to get some inspiration. Gorgeous tourism images from Europeana’s consortium of European research libraries. It includes sections for Albania, Croatia, Bosnia and would be of value for social historians of tourism and those considering constructions of national identity in popular culture
