According to the latest report from Plan UK five indicators were used to rank the 346 local/unitary authorities in England and Wales. They included child poverty, education, life expectancy and teenage pregnancy. The final results revealed Sandwell and Salford to be the worst places. Also released this week – No country for young women. The recent public opinion poll from the Young Women’s Trust which from a survey of 4,000 18-30 year olds found high levels of debt and despair. More felt it more likely that astronauts would have landed on Mars by the time they were 40 than they would be free of debt.
