L’histoire des élections européennes (1952-2014)
If you are interested in the history of the European Parliament, CVCE has compiled a selection of resources (explanatory texts, photos and graphics) and oral accounts (mainly French language) on the European Parliament from its establishment in 1952 to the present day.
There is a particularly good section on the move towards direct elections in the 1970s. This includes photographs of demonstrations in Brussels in 1976 when people demanded to vote in European elections! Also available are newspaper reports and official declarations plus some campaign materials. They include leaflets from Simone Veil who has also contributed an oral history on the purpose of the parliament from 1986.
