Oliver Brett – I am project assistant for ‘Viewing and writing landscape: Luigi Ghirri and his legacy in photography and literature’. I completed my undergraduate studies in French and Italian at the University of Leicester from where I have just been awarded a PhD for my thesis on ‘The lieu factice: Performance, Identity and Place in French and Italian Queer documentary since 2000′. My interests lie in the use of visual representation in shaping social, political and cultural discourse (particularly through documentary cinema and from Queer perspectives). Reflecting upon the work of Ghirri and Celati, I am particularly interested in the intersection of different cultural formats (cinema, documentary, and literature, for example) and drawing attention to less well-known cultural production in Italy. Having completed my PhD, I now have a little more time for other endeavours—such as Marina and Jacopo’s fascinating project—and welcome any questions/enquiries or potential contributions to the blog. Please do not hesitate to contact me (in Italian, French or English) by email on ob49@le.ac.uk. I know Leicester very well and also welcome any questions concerning any practicalities when, and if, attending the conference next year. With best wishes, Oliver. A presto!
