The discussion board has had a major overhaul, with a more up-to-date look, and improved features.
The main advantage from the point of view of your teaching is the ‘Post First’ feature, which requires students to contribute before reading the discussion.
Threads are now easier to read, and you can see all threads on one page. If this gets too long you can collapse or expand either individual posts, or all posts on the page.
If you have personalised your Blackboard profile with an avatar, it will appear on the left. You add an avatar from the Personal Information link on the Blackboard Home Page.
Replying to a thread now gives you access to the full content editor, so that you can add multimedia to your replies.
The Post First feature:
If you enable this when setting up your discussion forum students have to contribute to the discussion before they are allowed to see posts by other students.
This can help to prevent ‘cherry picking’ of others’ comments, and encourages students to create a substantive post rather than simply agreeing with what has already been said.
Comments are closed, but trackbacks and pingbacks are open.
