Stargazing nights at Oadby Observatory

The School of Physics and Astronomy would like to invite staff and their families to a stargazing night at the Oadby Observatory on Manor Road.

The Oadby Observatory has a state of the art 20” Planewave CDK20 Telescope and is one of the UK’s largest and most advanced astronomical teaching facilities. The session will be led by Dr Paul Abel who previously co-presented BBC’s ‘The Sky at Night’ programme, and will give visitors the chance to see stars and planets.

Because of the size of the observatory, numbers are constrained to 25 people per night and bookings operate on a first come first serve basis. The available dates are:

  • Tuesday 31 January 2023
  • Tuesday 28 February 2023
  • Tuesday 28 of March 2023

All open nights begin at 7.30pm.

If you are interested in booking a space, please contact Dipali Thanki, Observatory Manager, on ext. 3527 or email dj42@le.ac.uk
