Farewell to Professor Graham Wynn

The School of Physics and Astronomy bids a fond farewell to Professor Graham Wynn, PVC Education and Professor of Theoretical Astrophysics.

Professor Graham Wynn, PVC Education, has been appointed as PVC Education at Northumbria University. Graham and his family are re-locating back to his home in the North East. He will take up his new role from 1 October 2021.

Graham has been a member of the University for 34 years, joining as an undergraduate student in 1987. He has been a faculty member in Physics and Astronomy since 1996, after completing both his undergraduate and PhD studies at the University. He was the Director of Learning and Teaching for the Department from 2010 to 2016 and Head of Department between 2018 and 2020. Graham successfully led the Education Excellence Programme at the University between 2018 and 2020 and he was the Academic Lead for the Curriculum Transformation Programme, which involved a full curriculum review of all taught programmes at the University, between 2016 and 2018. More recently, in his role of PVC Education, he has led the development of ignite, our approach to blended learning.


A Professor of Theoretical Astrophysics in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, Professor Wynn is also an active researcher. His active research topics include accretion disc physics, X-ray binary stars, Gamma-ray bursts and cosmological feedback processes.


Professor Nishan Canagarajah, Vice Chancellor at Leicester, said “I have only worked with Graham for a short period of his long career at the University but I have valued his contributions immensely. He has been a tremendous colleague on the Executive Board and a real asset to the University. He will be greatly missed by many.”
