Celebrating our 2020 Physics and Astronomy Prizes


The School of Physics and Astronomy has announced the 2020 recipients of our undergraduate prizes.


With exam season now behind us, we’re very happy to reveal the recipients of our 2020 awards in the School of Physics and Astronomy! This year has seen some tremendous efforts across the School, despite the exceptional circumstances related to COVID-19 and the transition to home-working. The performance from our undergraduates has been exceptional, and sets a high-water mark for future year groups.


The 2020 awards are as follows:

  • Stewardson Essay Prize for Josh Finn, for Best essay by an undergraduate student reading Physics as main subject.
  • Physics Community Prize to Jessica Goldie and Lilli Helps, awarded to the students who has made an outstanding contribution to the Physics and Astronomy department’s undergraduate student environment.
  • Samuel and Rachel May Prize in Physics to Jack Higginson and Adrian Tasak, for Outstanding performance in the final year of any undergraduate Physics course.
  • Physics Research Poster Prize to Rosie Hodnett, Awarded to the student achieving the highest mark in the year 4 research project poster presentation.
  • Departmental Prize in Physics and Astronomy to George Holyoak, Dan Potts, Peter Millington-Hotze, Aaron Lock, and Anastasia Polyviou, awarded to the 5 best-performing students in years 3 and 4.
  • Photonis Prize For Physics for Katie Knowles, for distinguished performance in the second-year examinations in the Department of Physics.
  • College Prize for Best Second-Year Undergraduate to Dikshita Meggi, for best second-year undergraduate.
  • Physics Year Three Research Project Prize to Sarah Norman and one other, awarded to the student group working on a single project with the highest marks in the year three research project.
  • Airbus Space Science Prize to Jack Weston, awarded to the best final year student in Space Science.
