Fellowship Opportunities in Leicester Physics and Astronomy

The School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester welcomes applicants for the STFC Ernest Rutherford and Royal Society University Research Fellowship schemes.

We welcome enquires from internal and external candidates to join our research team in the School of Physics and Astronomy in 2020!

STFC Ernest Rutherford

STFC apply a quota system for the number of applications that can be submitted for an Ernest Rutherford Fellowship (ERF).  We have a quota of 5 applications (not including returners to research, see below), and we will follow the process below to ensure that we can select candidates of the highest quality.

• Please submit an outline 1-page research case plus your full CV to hodphysics@leicester.ac.uk by 5pm on Wednesday August 5th 2020.  Use of the STFC CV template is encouraged.
• Assessment of the submissions by Head of School and the Heads of the relevant Research Groups by August 14th 2020.
• Successful applicants to be informed by Monday August 17th and confirmations required back from applicants no sooner than August 20th 2020.
• Full submission to STFC by 4pm on Thursday September 17^th 2020.  Submission to our research services team will be required 3-5 days in advance of the deadline.
• Please note a change from previous years: the case for support has been extended to four sides of A4 to accommodate additional information regarding impact.
  

Please note that STFC encourages people who have had career breaks (of at least a year) and are intending to return to research.  These candidates do now count towards our quota, so please let us know at the time of submission to us (August 5th) if you are in this category.

Royal Society University Research Fellowships

This scheme will be open 14 July 2020 – 3 September 2020, and there is no quota on the number of applicants that can be supported through Leicester.  Please visit the following website for full details on eligibility:https://royalsociety.org/grants-schemes-awards/grants/university-research/

You can apply for this scheme if you have between three to eight years of research experience since your PhD by the closing date of the round. Career breaks are taken into account, please refer to the scheme notes for further details.  You must not hold a permanent post in a university or not for profit research organisation.  And you must not hold, or have not previously held, an equivalent fellowship that provides an opportunity to establish an independent research group and therefore independent researcher status.
