This July, the Library is celebrating South Asian Heritage Month with a book treasure hunt. 40 Golden Tickets will be hidden throughout the David Wilson Library from Friday 10 – Friday 31 July. Anyone who finds a golden ticket can exchange it for a free book from a specially curated collection celebrating South Asian authors and stories.
The selection reflects a broad range of genres, from LGBTQ+ fiction and cosy crime to poetry and colouring books:
- Nura and the Immortal Palace by M.T. Khan
- The Henna Wars by Adiba Jaigirdar
- You Don’t Know Me by Imran Mahmood
- The Thing That We Lost by Jyoti Patel
- The Calming Mandala Colouring Book by September Reed
- Sun and Her Flowers by Rupi Kaur
- The Last White Man by Mohsin Hamid
- Mrs Sidhu’s Dead and Scone by Suk Pannu.

Clues to help participants find the Golden Tickets will be shared throughout the month on the library’s Instagram (@uol_library) and displayed on posters around the David Wilson Library.
The Golden Ticket Book Hunt is open to current University students, staff, graduands and external library members. Whether you’re looking to discover a new favourite author or simply enjoy the thrill of the hunt, it’s a unique way to celebrate South Asian Heritage Month and the power of reading.
How can I find the golden tickets?
- 40 Golden Tickets hidden in David Wilson Library.
- The ticket will be hidden on basement, ground, 1st and 2nd floors of the Library.
- We won’t be hiding books in any of the silent study zones or the 3rd floor, so please avoid these areas when searching for the Golden Tickets.
- Printed copies of the clues will be available to collect in the Information Hub, Exhibition Zone and Reading Zone.
I’ve found a Golden Ticket! What happens next?
- Simply take this to the Information Hub during the staffed hours to exchange for a free SAHM book.
- Inside the book is a specially designed bookplate, which includes a link for you to share any photos or reviews of the book with us.
- Only one Golden Ticket can be exchanged per person.
Can’t make it onto campus during July?
- Copies of the books are available to borrow from the David Wilson Library, with even more British South Asian authors represented in our Library collections. Check out the Library’s South Asian Heritage Month Reading List for inspiration for your next read!
- The Library also has a vast selection of these books available as digital audio books, which can be accessed for free via the Libby App.
