Imagine your dream role…mine is the Marketing Director of England Netball. In my mind it involves interviewing netballers, watching netball games, playing netball even…in reality it is probably none of the above. Quite often we have a preconceived idea of what a job might entail or what a company might be like to work for – insight days are designed to give you the opportunity to find out for real.
Usually based at an organisation/company’s offices a typical insight day will touring the offices, meeting current staff/graduates and being given the chance to ask questions whilst figuring out if you actually like it there.
Why else should you go?
- They give you a first-hand look into how a company works through engagement with employers and sometimes recent graduates who want to help you make some choices
- They help you understand about how different organisations work how this can affect your decision to apply for a role.
- Hearing directly from and speaking to employers can give you a much better idea about work/life balance, the company’s ethics and what kind of role you would play in the business
- They look great on your CV and job application
At the University of Leicester we can bring insight days to you. During the coming months we will be hosting several on campus insight days in a variety of sectors that can really support you in your decision making process;
Insight into IT (Weds, November 11th. 2pm – 5pm)
Insight into Accountancy and Professional Services (Weds, November 18th. 2pm – 5pm)
Insight into Public Sector (Weds, November 25th. 2.30pm – 4.30pm)
The aim of the event is not to make you decide exactly what role within a specific company you want, but to give you an idea of the type of working environment that will suit you. Hearing from employers is by far the best way to gain insight, so don’t miss out!
