Leicester Physicists at American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting 2019

At the beginning of December, members from Leicester’s School of Physics and Astronomy made their way to San Francisco, USA to present their research at the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Fall Meeting 2019, writes Harneet Sangha.

The meeting had over 25,000 attendees, a handful of which were from the University of Leicester. This enormous conference was based at the newly renovated Moscone Center, the largest convention complex in San Francisco. With such a wide range of subject matter being presented from an array of national and international attendees, there was never a dull moment.

Topics included planetary sciences, magnetospheric physics, atmospheric sciences, ocean sciences, seismology, volcanology, tectonophysics, near earth surface physics, natural hazards, education, public affairs and many more! Sitting in one of the many simultaneous talks, visiting the diverse posters that were on display, or taking a stroll through the vast exhibition centre, to pick up free merchandise, there was always something to do.

The AGU Fall Meeting 2019 was great fun, and with AGU’s 2020 Meeting also taking place in San Francisco, be sure to attend if you can!
