{"id":877,"date":"2013-02-01T09:15:33","date_gmt":"2013-02-01T09:15:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/?p=877"},"modified":"2025-02-26T13:16:23","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T13:16:23","slug":"the-new-content-editor","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/blackboard\/the-new-content-editor\/","title":{"rendered":"The new &#8216;Content Editor&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The upgrade to Blackboard 9.1 (service pack 8) last year brought one update that I think everyone has been waiting for &#8230; the new text editor.<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few pointers to making the most of it:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-909\" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" title=\"Blackboard Content Editor\" alt=\"Blackboard Content Editor\" src=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor01.png\" width=\"465\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor01.png 775w, https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor01-300x127.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 465px) 100vw, 465px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Options for text and font formatting are more tightly controlled \u2013 it\u2019s more difficult to change font and font size, therefore making your materials and content more likely to look the same across the whole course.<\/li>\n<li>Cut-and-paste from Word documents strips out the unnecessary hidden code and leaves only the basic formatting (bold, italics, etc), again helping your content have a more unified appearance.<!--more--><\/li>\n<li>Option to have the content editor full-screen (finally!!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-910\" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" alt=\"Blackboard Content Editor\" src=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor02.png\" width=\"261\" height=\"118\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Edit CSS styles (if you like it that way) and have control over the design of your content.<\/li>\n<li>Insert special characters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-911\" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" alt=\"Blackboard Content Editor\" src=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor03.png\" width=\"383\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor03.png 532w, https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor03-300x177.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 383px) 100vw, 383px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Cut-and-paste tables from Excel or Word actually pastes the table in the editor, properly, and they\u2019re easier to edit too (see below)!<\/li>\n<li>Create and manage tables quickly and easily using the editor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-912\" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" alt=\"Blackboard Content Editor\" src=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor04.png\" width=\"301\" height=\"231\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor04.png 376w, https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor04-300x230.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 301px) 100vw, 301px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Edit the image properties easily when you right-click the image when in edit mode.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-913\" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" alt=\"Blackboard Content Editor\" src=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor05.png\" width=\"152\" height=\"242\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor05.png 190w, https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor05-188x300.png 188w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 152px) 100vw, 152px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Insert mash-up (see above) makes it easy to search and insert from YouTube, Flickr, and SlideShare. Once you&#8217;ve chosen the content to embed you\u2019ll have the options on how it is presented as well as what attributes are displayed (Blackboard \u2026 more mash-up sources please!).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-914\" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" alt=\"Blackboard Content Editor\" src=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor06.png\" width=\"229\" height=\"131\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The spell checker is far less clunky than in previous versions, and works in the editor instead of in a different pop-up box. Words are highlighted with a red underline and a left-mouse click on the words gives you the options to correct it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-915\" style=\"border: 1px solid black\" alt=\"Blackboard Content Editor\" src=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor07.png\" width=\"276\" height=\"177\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor07.png 307w, https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/telsocsci\/files\/2013\/01\/bb91-texteditor07-300x192.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 276px) 100vw, 276px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Don\u2019t miss this little gem \u2013 those three little lines in the bottom right of the editor indicate you can enlarge the box so you can see more of your content as you edit it!
