It was aimed at using learning technologies to enhance their MA TESOL Distance Learning course.<\/p>\n<p>We thought we\u2019d practice what we preach, by using technology to enhance our teaching. So we started the day with a brainstorming session on participants&#8217;\u00a0expectations for the day using <a href=\"https:\/\/padlet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Padlet.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Padlet is free to use web-based collaborative space. Students can add \u2018notes\u2019 to the page. It can be used for brainstorming sessions, for asking questions about a topic, or for evaluations of a session (notes can be anonymous). An example below. You can add images, video, hyperlinks to a note. An example below. They were grouped under technologies for:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Planning<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/learningdesigner.org\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">learning designer.org<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Lino<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/gingkoapp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ginko<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Google Docs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Delivering and engaging<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adobe Presenter<\/li>\n<li>Adobe Video Creator<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.screencast-o-matic.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Screencast-O-matic<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/prezi.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Prezi<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gingerlabs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Notability<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/en-us\/Learn\/9.1_SP_12_and_SP_13\/Instructor\/060_Course_Tools\/Achievements\" target=\"_blank\">Blackboard Achievements<\/a>\u00a0(open badges)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Collaboration<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Padlet<\/li>\n<li>Webinars via Adobe Connect<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Assessment and feedback<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/en-us\/Learn\/9.1_SP_10_and_SP_11\/Student\/070_Content_Collection\/090_About_Portfolios\" target=\"_blank\">Blackboard Portfolios<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Google Sites<\/li>\n<li>Screencastomatic (using screencasting to give feedback on assignments)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/help.blackboard.com\/en-us\/Learn\/9.1_SP_10_and_SP_11\/Instructor\/070_Tests_Surveys_Pools\/010_Creating_Tests_and_Surveys\" target=\"_blank\">Blackboard quizzes and mobile quizzes<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Following this the participants were given the opportunity to try out some of the software. For example, creating screencasts with screencast-o-matic, narrated PowerPoint with Adobe Presenter, creating audio files with <a href=\"http:\/\/audacity.sourceforge.net\/\" target=\"_blank\">Audacity.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our participants\u00a0were able to take lots of new ideas away for consideration and we will follow up with them when they have decided how they would like to put it into practice.<\/p>\n<p>This workshop can be made available for any member of College of Social Science staff, and the tools and skills are applicable to any teaching and learning, not just online distance learning.
