Rutland.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The collections&nbsp;contain episodes from different programmes that were&nbsp;broadcast on BBC Radio Leicester.&nbsp;Below is a summary of these programmes:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Digging out the Past &#8211;\u00a0series focusing\u00a0on Leicester\u2019s\u00a0local archaeology and history,\u00a0broadcast between 1979 and 1989.\u00a0<\/li><li>Platform &#8211; series focusing on transport in and around Leicester, particularly trains, buses, and trams, broadcast between 1974 and 1989.\u00a0<\/li><li>The Midland Line &#8211; series for schools focusing on the Leicester to London railway line\u2019s past, present, and future, broadcast in 1983.\u00a0<\/li><li>Leicester in the thirties &#8211; social history series for schools exploring\u00a0life in Leicester during the 1930s, broadcast in 1974.\u00a0<\/li><li>Made in Leicester &#8211; series examining the history and current operations of different companies in Leicester through interviews with employees, first broadcast in 1980.\u00a0<\/li><li>Tape Machine: Time Machine &#8211; series looking back over ten years of BBC Radio Leicester (1967-1977) through extracts from previous recordings and interviews with individuals who contributed to the station over the decade, broadcast in 1977.\u00a0<\/li><li>Leicester Lines &#8211; series exploring the history of Leicestershire railways, first broadcast in 1976.\u00a0<\/li><li>Down the Fosse Way &#8211; social history series focusing on the Leicestershire towns and villages along the Roman road, the Fosse Way, broadcast in 1979.\u00a0<\/li><li>The Hunt &#8211;\u00a0series exploring the history of fox hunting, first broadcast in 1975.\u00a0<\/li><li>In Depth &#8211;\u00a0series featuring interviews with notable individuals and celebrities, broadcast between 1996 and 1999,\u00a0<\/li><li>Florrie and Ada &#8211;\u00a0Christmas specials recorded by the live comedy act \u2018Florrie and Ada\u2019 whose shows highlighted the Leicestershire accent, broadcast between 1991 and 1993\u00a0<\/li><li>DNA Series &#8211;\u00a0series exploring the discovery, use, and future of DNA, broadcast in 1991.\u00a0<\/li><li>Behind Closed Doors &#8211;\u00a0programme exploring life in Welford Road Prison, Leicester, broadcast in 1980.\u00a0<\/li><li>Jazz Corner &#8211;\u00a0series featuring live performances of jazz music, broadcast during the 1970s.\u00a0<\/li><li>In Perspective &#8211;\u00a0current affairs series broadcast between the late 1960s and\u00a0mid-1990s.\u00a0<\/li><li>In Concert &#8211; series featuring live performances of classical orchestral music and interviews with associated individuals, broadcast during the 1970s and 1980s.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The Midlands team also worked with two collections comprising of recordings taken from multiple sources.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>The Alan&nbsp;McWhirr&nbsp;Collection contains various programmes and excerpts relating to the work and interests of the professional&nbsp;archaeologist and historian,&nbsp;Alan&nbsp;McWhirr. The recordings date from the 1970s to the 1980s.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The Beck Case Archive consists of&nbsp;compilation tapes containing news reports, interviews, and features on the court case of Frank Beck, convicted child sex offender, sentenced in 1991. Beck was officer-in-charge of several children\u2019s homes in Leicester during the 1970s and 1980s.
