Vogue has a history<\/a> of the origins of London Fashion Week<\/a><\/p>\n

What is the value of fashion ?<\/u><\/p>\n

In 2018 British Fashion Council<\/a> released some data about London Fashion Week including that there were 20,000 cups of espresso served and 200kg of Lavazza coffee consumed!\u00a0 For data on its impact see the Blooming Flower conversation <\/a>project which has some interesting visualisations.<\/p>\n

Direct value of the UK fashion industry to the UK economy was calculated as nearly \u00a321 billion in a report commissioned by the British Fashion Council<\/a> published in 2010.\u00a0\u00a0The Creative Industries website also has data<\/a>.\u00a0 These include value of UK fashion reports.
\n<\/a>
\nGeneral employment and regional trends for all the creative industries.<\/a>
\nOn a global scale Mckinsey offers reports in to the international fashion industry trends<\/a>
\n
\n<\/strong>What about the negative impact of fashion?<\/u><\/p>\n

WRAP has revealed the negative impact of fast fashion on the environment.\u00a0\u00a0The valuing our clothes report 2017 <\/a>revealed that “1,130,000 tonnes of new clothing was purchased in the UK \u2013 an increase of 200,000 tonnes since 2012.\u00a0 Fashion in the UK lasts an average of 3.3 years before a garment is discarded.”
\nWRAP has started an industry sustainable textiles campaign<\/a><\/p>\n

Other negative areas include: the wages and conditions of workers.\u00a0 The Clean Clothes campaign<\/a> has details of conditions in developing countries.
