This week the Access to Cash report\u00a0<\/a>was published. This independent survey found that the many people in the UK, primarily the poor, continue to rely heavily on cash. Indeed<\/p>\n

17% of adults surveyed would find it difficult to manage without.<\/p>\n

Other reports can be found on the main\u00a0review website<\/a><\/p>\n

Yet at the same time Link data from ATM shows trends in declining withdrawal of cash: a\u00a0useful source<\/a>\u00a0on this are its monthly ATM report<\/a><\/p>\n

British Retail Consortium\u00a0<\/a>showed 75% of sales in September 2018 for its surveyed members were by card<\/p>\n

Faster Payments Statistics\u00a0<\/a>– which is now part of UK Payments has details on the volume of faster payments made by chaps, cheques cash etc.<\/p>\n

Bank of England\u00a0<\/a>records high levels of bank notes still in circulation.<\/p>\n

The issue perhaps then is the background of the user.<\/p>\n

In 2018 Which? summarised\u00a0<\/a>what it found to be the risks of cashless society.<\/p>\n

There are still large numbers of people in the UK who don’t have a bank account.\u00a0 In 2017 a\u00a0Lords Committee report on financial exclusion\u00a0<\/a>concluded that\u00a0more than 1.7 million people in the UK were without a bank account.
\n<\/strong>This\u00a0Toynbee Hall research report from 2017<\/a> makes interesting reading on the reasons why.<\/p>\n
