{"id":3792,"date":"2018-11-02T10:28:48","date_gmt":"2018-11-02T10:28:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/?p=3792"},"modified":"2024-11-26T17:49:06","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T17:49:06","slug":"day-to-end-impunity-for-crimes-against-journalists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/2018\/11\/02\/day-to-end-impunity-for-crimes-against-journalists\/","title":{"rendered":"Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The United Nations has designated 2nd November as a day against impunity for crimes against journalists.\u00a0 On this day the call on nations to condemn attacks on journalists and to bring the alleged perpetrators to justice.\u00a0 For more information and links see\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/events\/journalists\/\">http:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/events\/journalists\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>This year<a href=\"https:\/\/unesco.exposure.co\/truth-never-dies\"> UNESCO has launched a special campaign #TruthNever Dies<\/a>\u00a0 It has profiles and links to articles of murdered journalists such as Jamal Khashoggi.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives of the International Federation of Journalists, the World Association of Newspapers (WAN-IFRA), the European Broadcasting Union and UNI-MEI, the organisation representing media professionals have launched an initiative calling for a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ifj.org\/actions\/ifj-campaigns\/end-impunity-for-a-un-convention-to-protect-journalists.html\">United Nations Convention to protect journalists <\/a>.\u00a0 Read the draft and reasons on the website<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpj.org\/killed\/\">Committee to Protect Journalists<\/a> has data on journalists killed since 1992 as well as annual reports on the nature and extent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cpj.org\/attacks\/\">of attacks on the press<\/a>.
