{"id":3723,"date":"2018-09-24T14:19:28","date_gmt":"2018-09-24T14:19:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/?p=3723"},"modified":"2024-11-26T17:49:06","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T17:49:06","slug":"does-fashion-contribute-to-the-uk-economy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/2018\/09\/24\/does-fashion-contribute-to-the-uk-economy\/","title":{"rendered":"Does fashion contribute to the UK economy?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">I<\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">n London Fashion Week we consider <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">how much fashion contributes to the economy.\u00a0 Here are some useful starting points:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">The British Fashion Council commissioned from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.londonfashionweek.co.uk\/news_detail.aspx?ID=1921\">Oxford Economics.<\/a> some data which included &#8211; the figure that the\u00a0 fashion industry directly contributed \u00a332.3billion to the UK GDP in 2017<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thecreativeindustries.co.uk\/industries\/fashion\/fashion-facts-and-figures\/how-fashion-fuels-the-uk-economy\">Creative Industries website<\/a> has some data from UK government reports on the sector which cover the economics, exports and employment<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">Other sources <a href=\"https:\/\/data.london.gov.uk\/apps_and_analysis\/londons-creative-industries-2017-update\/\">include the Mayor of London website<\/a> which has data on creative industries in London in 2017\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/businessindustryandtrade\/business\/activitysizeandlocation\/adhocs\/008125fashionindustrysmallandmediumenterprisessme\">Office for National Statistics <\/a>has some recent data on the number of SMEs in the fashion industry sector.
