{"id":3529,"date":"2018-04-20T10:55:47","date_gmt":"2018-04-20T10:55:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/?p=3529"},"modified":"2024-11-26T17:49:09","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T17:49:09","slug":"gesisdatasearch-a-data-discovery-index-for-the-social-sciences","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/2018\/04\/20\/gesisdatasearch-a-data-discovery-index-for-the-social-sciences\/","title":{"rendered":"gesisDataSearch: a Data Discovery Index for the Social Sciences"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Now in beta, a new tool which will enable researchers to quickly identify high quality social and economic datasets.\u00a0 It is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nature.com\/articles\/sdata201864\">described more fully in this article<\/a> but basically it aims to use Data Documentation Initiative metadata\u00a0to harvest records from a number of separate high-quality sources including the\u00a0German GESIS Data Archive (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gesis.org\/en\/services\/data-analysis\/\">https:\/\/www.gesis.org\/en\/services\/data-analysis\/<\/a>), and the US American Data Archive, ICPSR.\u00a0 The aim is to enable searchers to conduct key word searches in one place then sort the results by date, type of survey (includes numeric, spss files, voting pols, opinion polls etc.<\/p>\n<p>Try it out in the <a href=\"http:\/\/datasearch.gesis.org\/\">Beta search<\/a><\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in data you might also like to take a look at the <a href=\"http:\/\/openminted.eu\/\">OpenMinTeD websuiite.<\/a><br \/>\nThis European project is aiming to create an infrastructure that fosters and facilitates the use of\u00a0text mining technologies in scientific publications worldwide.\u00a0 It has recently been developing infographics to demonstrate usage in food <a href=\"http:\/\/openminted.eu\/what-microorganisms-live-in-my-cheese\/\">microbiology.
