{"id":3333,"date":"2017-12-05T11:40:17","date_gmt":"2017-12-05T11:40:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/?p=3333"},"modified":"2024-11-26T17:49:12","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T17:49:12","slug":"inequality-in-the-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/2017\/12\/05\/inequality-in-the-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"Inequality in the UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Is London the most socially mobile place in the UK?\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">See the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/state-of-the-nation-2017\">latest report from the Social Mobility Commission.<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000\"> This has a geographical mapping of places where social mobility is high or low according to 16 indicators. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/education-42112436\">BBC has a developed a tool for its website<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000\"> where you can view local authority rankings by hovering over a map.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Also released this week an interesting report from the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/youngfoundation.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/11\/ATaleOfTwoCities_FullReport.pdf\">Young Foundation<\/a><span style=\"color: #000000\"> \u2013 which \u00a0has qualitative results of surveys on how communities experience inequality.<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"> The Joseph Rowntree Foundation has reports on inequality and poverty from the UK. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrf.org.uk\/report\/living-standards-poverty-inequality-uk-2017-18-2021-22\">These include projections to 2021-22<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">They also have regular <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.jrf.org.uk\/report\/monitoring-poverty-and-social-exclusion-2016\">monitoring poverty and social exclusion reports.<\/a><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #000000\"> For an international comparison of how committed the UK government is to reducing inequalities in relation to others, see the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/policy-practice.oxfam.org.uk\/publications\/the-commitment-to-reducing-inequality-index-a-new-global-ranking-of-governments-620316\">Oxfam inequality Index.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Is London the most socially mobile place in the UK?\u00a0 See the latest report from the Social Mobility Commission.
