{"id":3000,"date":"2017-03-10T12:21:49","date_gmt":"2017-03-10T12:21:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/?p=3000"},"modified":"2024-11-26T17:49:33","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T17:49:33","slug":"economic-arguments-for-gender-equality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/2017\/03\/10\/economic-arguments-for-gender-equality\/","title":{"rendered":"Economic arguments for gender equality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Great economic evidence in favour of Gender equality was published in this <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/eige.europa.eu\/gender-mainstreaming\/sectoral-areas\/economic-and-financial-affairs\/economic-benefits-gender-equality\"><span style=\"color: #0563c1\">recent report from the EIGE (European Institute for Gender Equality)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000\"> which quoted the data that on average improved gender equality in EU nations\u00a0would to <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">lead to an increase in GDP of about 12% by 2050<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\">.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">This is supported by the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/reports.weforum.org\/global-gender-gap-report-2016\/the-case-for-gender-parity\/\"><span style=\"color: #0563c1\">World Economic Forum Gender Gap report 2016 <\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u00a0which presents the case for gender parity in economic terms.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif;font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">However, this week a report by the Fawcett society found that despite progress in the UK many ethnic minority women are still left behind. They <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.fawcettsociety.org.uk\/2017\/03\/many-minority-ethnic-women-left-behind-pay-gap-progress\/\"><span style=\"color: #0563c1\">quote the shocking statistics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000\"> that <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Pakistani &amp; Bangladeshi women see biggest overall gender pay gap at 26%, Black African women experience largest full-<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial',sans-serif\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">time gender pay gap at 19.6%\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Great economic evidence in favour of Gender equality was published in this recent report from the EIGE (European Institute for Gender Equality) which quoted the data that on average improved gender equality in EU nations\u00a0would to lead to an increase in GDP of about 12% by 2050.
