{"id":2981,"date":"2017-02-24T16:59:31","date_gmt":"2017-02-24T16:59:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/?p=2981"},"modified":"2024-11-26T17:49:33","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T17:49:33","slug":"new-fact-check-sites-for-french-newspapers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/2017\/02\/24\/new-fact-check-sites-for-french-newspapers\/","title":{"rendered":"New fact-check sites for French newspapers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With recent concerns about Fake news, seventeen local and national newsrooms in France, including AFP, Buzzfeed News, Les Echos, Le Monde, Lib\u00e9ration and La Voix Du Nord have joined a collaborative journalism verification project <a href=\"https:\/\/firstdraftnews.com\/crosscheck-launches\/\">CrossCheck<\/a>. which has been created by First Draft and Google News Lab. It will be formally launched on February 27th.\u00a0 It will be using a number of different tools to verify news accuracy including Google Trends, Crowd Tangle social media checking and Le Monde\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/verification\/\">Le D\u00e9codex,\u00a0<\/a>a growing database of more than\u00a0600 news sites where users can enter a URL to find out if a site is considered \u2018real\u2019 or \u2018fake\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Another famous French fact-checking site supported by\u00a0left leaning paper <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liberation.fr\/\">Lib\u00e9ration<\/a>, is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liberation.fr\/desintox,99721\">D\u00e9sintox<\/a>, a site aimed at verifying and fact-checking political claims.\u00a0 Using the search engine on the site or the browser extension available for Chrome and Firefox, readers can find out how trustworthy a site is with the help of a colour-coded system.\u00a0 Green stands for highly reliable pages, sites marked in yellow should be read with caution, and red means a site which they feel often publishes fake news.<\/p>\n<p>The more specific <a href=\"https:\/\/oeilsurlefront.liberation.fr\/\">L&#8217;Oeil sur le Front<\/a>\u201d was launched in November; this concentrates on claims attributed and made by Marine Le Pen\u2019s right-wing party, the National Front.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With recent concerns about Fake news, seventeen local and national newsrooms in France, including AFP, Buzzfeed News, Les Echos, Le Monde, Lib\u00e9ration and La Voix Du Nord have joined a collaborative journalism verification project CrossCheck. which has been created by First Draft and Google News Lab.
