{"id":2879,"date":"2016-12-12T10:53:14","date_gmt":"2016-12-12T10:53:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/?p=2879"},"modified":"2024-11-26T17:49:35","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T17:49:35","slug":"is-the-uk-an-equal-society","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/2016\/12\/12\/is-the-uk-an-equal-society\/","title":{"rendered":"Is the UK an equal society?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Released this week, the <a href=\"https:\/\/email.le.ac.uk\/owa\/redir.aspx?C=BVkjKm6T6zbtHy7M4UYqvjs2VllKcg6AfuZGgEU5Pqbf7p1ifCLUCA..&amp;URL=https%3a%2f%2fwww.gov.uk%2fgovernment%2fpublications%2fthe-casey-review-a-review-into-opportunity-and-integration\">Casey Review<\/a> into opportunity and integration.<br \/>\nThis independent review was commissioned in July 2015 and\u00a0conducted by Dame Louise Casey.\u00a0 In her summary she states that she wanted to consider the nature and extent of social deprivation and division in society and how it could give rise to intolerance and hate.<br \/>\nLarge sections consider the conditions of immigrant and ethnic minority communities\u00a0and proposes ways in which\u00a0resilience and integration could be increased through the promotion\u00a0 of shared British values.<\/p>\n<p>Shockingly this was not the only report this week which published findings on poverty and inequality.\u00a0 The Joseph Rowntree Society and New Policy Institute released their <a href=\"https:\/\/email.le.ac.uk\/owa\/redir.aspx?C=UwYLTGSWhy9BPF7WbGEHddQKeGhbdGn99mT8RutX7FHf7p1ifCLUCA..&amp;URL=https%3a%2f%2fwww.jrf.org.uk%2freport%2fmonitoring-poverty-and-social-exclusion-2016\">annual review of poverty and social<\/a> exclusion a key finding was that in 2014\/15 21% of families\u00a0were in low-income households.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the <a href=\"https:\/\/email.le.ac.uk\/owa\/redir.aspx?C=sdasax8_46Dj_wdzQMfcEfIgcdMAJotkmHPH51ci_bHf7p1ifCLUCA..&amp;URL=http%3a%2f%2fwww.crae.org.uk%2fnews%2fpress-release-time-to-act-charity-urges-government-to-tackle-england%25E2%2580%2599s-poor-record-on-children%2f\">Children Sights Alliance<\/a> found in its annual review failings in terms of education housing and protection of rights<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/email.le.ac.uk\/owa\/redir.aspx?C=kmYzP4lO99xNUXxmMcpDZ9k8wv5PPPJd6dEgXObpWKnf7p1ifCLUCA..&amp;URL=http%3a%2f%2fwww.redcross.org.uk%2fen%2fWhat-we-do%2fHealth-and-social-care%2fIndependent-living%2fLoneliness-and-isolation\">The Red Cross<\/a> also reported on the increasing problem of loneliness and isolation in the UK.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Released this week, the Casey Review into opportunity and integration.
