The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.journalism.org\/2015\/04\/29\/state-of-the-news-media-2015\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">2015 edition<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\"> recorded that in 2014 newspaper circulation (USA) fell 3% .\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">For many large titles usage is shifting online.\u00a0 The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.journalism.org\/2015\/04\/29\/newspapers-fact-sheet\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">New York Times reported an average weekday print<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\"> \u2018circulation of less than 650,000 in September 2014.\u00a0 But their website and associated apps attracted nearly 54 million unique visitors in January 2015, and the majority of their paid circulation comes from digital sources (about 1.4 million)\u2019 The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.journalism.co.uk\/news\/new-york-times-innovation-report-the-next-chapter\/s2\/a565328\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">New York Times Innovation report showed<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\"> how an established newspaper was struggling to adapt to the digital world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">In the UK the Guardian recorded that from 2014-2015 the top 10 UK daily newspapers had recorded an average\u00a0 fall in circulation of 10%. They continue to record stories relating to the changing nature of <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/media\/abcs\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">news audience on their website<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">Other sources analysing and researching the changing nature of news gathering and reporting include the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.niemanlab.org\/2015\/12\/time-to-rebrand-comments\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">Nieman Lab<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\"> which has predictions of the future of journalism in 2016 from journalists.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">A new initiative to encourage engagement is the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.niemanlab.org\/2016\/02\/the-christian-science-monitor-has-a-new-project-to-provide-more-positive-takes-on-global-news\/\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">Christian Scientist read about Redirect<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">\u00a0 which is pushing \u2018positive news stories\u2019 on social media.\u00a0 At present these are aiming to present a more positive view point to counter viewpoints of Islam as extremist. \u00a0See some <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.csmonitor.com\/ds\/index.html\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">examples on the website<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\">The <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/taster\/projects\/bbc-drop-uk\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Calibri\">BBC has also launched Dropbox<\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri\"> a mobile friendly site directed at young African audiences.\u00a0 The pilot arose from a Nairobi based company it is pulling personalised news stories from The Juicer and CANDY.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Independent newspaper will be ceasing printed publication.
