{"id":2028,"date":"2015-05-26T08:25:42","date_gmt":"2015-05-26T08:25:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/?p=2028"},"modified":"2024-11-26T17:50:08","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T17:50:08","slug":"homosexuality-is-it-still-considered-a-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/2015\/05\/26\/homosexuality-is-it-still-considered-a-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"Homosexuality &#8211; is it still considered a disease?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Controversy continues concerning the WHO stance towards homosexuality.\u00a0 Its International Statistical <a href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/classifications\/icd\/en\/\">Classification of Diseases and Related\u00a0 Health Problems &#8211; Edition 10 <\/a>(1990) stated that sexual orientation\u00a0by itself was not to be regarded as a mental disorder, however it retained <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.who.int\/bulletin\/volumes\/92\/9\/blt-14-135541-table-t1.html\">Table F66 &#8211;<\/a><\/em>Psychological and behavioural disorders associated with sexual development and orientation\u00a0which many commentators such as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.apa.org\/pi\/lgbt\/resources\/icd-10.aspx%20\">American Psychological Association <\/a>have argued causes ongoing stigma.
