{"id":1708,"date":"2014-08-22T12:41:42","date_gmt":"2014-08-22T12:41:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/?p=1708"},"modified":"2024-11-26T17:50:29","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T17:50:29","slug":"women-and-low-pay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/2014\/08\/22\/women-and-low-pay\/","title":{"rendered":"Women and low pay"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A\u00a0number of reports have revealed a gender disparity in pay rates.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Fawcett society published <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fawcettsociety.org.uk\/2014\/08\/new-research-low-paid-women-firmly-shut-recovery\/\">The changing labour market 2: women, low pay and gender equality in the emerging recovery<\/a> \u2013 which included an analysis of employment data and a survey of over 1,000 working women. it revealed more women workers than men were on \u00a0short hours, zero hours contracts \u00a0and low pay in the recovery from the recession.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0A report from the EU found that on <a href=\"http:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/justice\/gender-equality\/files\/gender_pay_gap\/140319_gpg_en.pdf\">women in the UK earn 19.1 per cent less than men<\/a> the report also considers the gap in the other EU nations.<\/li>\n<li>A complete list of publications on this topic can be<a href=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/wp-admin\/at%20\u00a8%20http:\/ec.europa.eu\/justice\/gender-equality\/gender-pay-gap\/index_en.htm\"> found on their website<\/a><\/li>\n<li>The UK gender pay gap is calculated from data drawn from the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ons.gov.uk\/ons\/rel\/ashe\/annual-survey-of-hours-and-earnings\/2013-provisional-results\/index.html\">Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>which is carried out by the Office for National Statistics.\u00a0Use their website to see the full data.<\/li>\n<li>In March 2014 the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/uploads\/system\/uploads\/attachment_data\/file\/295833\/Analysis_of_the_Gender_Pay_Gap.pdf\">Department for Media Culture and Sport completed an analysis of pay gap data<\/a> covering the periods from 1997-2013 which examined trends by age group and occupation.<\/li>\n<li>Other monitoring reports can be found the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.equalityhumanrights.com\/sites\/default\/files\/documents\/research\/Briefing_papers\/bp_6_final.pdf\">Equality and Human Rights Commission website<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Her Majesty\u2019s Courts and Tribunal service publishes\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/tribunal-statistics-quarterly-and-annual-jan-mar-2013-2012-13\">Quarterly Reports<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.justice.gov.uk\/downloads\/publications\/corporate-reports\/hmcts\/2012\/hmcts-annual-report-2011-12.pdf\">\u00a0<\/a><\/strong>which show the number of cases filed with the Employment Tribunal.
