{"id":1374,"date":"2013-11-01T14:52:21","date_gmt":"2013-11-01T14:52:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/?p=1374"},"modified":"2024-11-26T17:50:34","modified_gmt":"2024-11-26T17:50:34","slug":"child-poverty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/socscilibrarians\/2013\/11\/01\/child-poverty\/","title":{"rendered":"Child Poverty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrenssociety.org.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/tcs\/poverty_commission_2pp_summary_final.pdf\">Through young eyes<\/a> <\/span>\u2013 three million children are living in <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/society\/poverty\">poverty<\/a> <\/span>in the UK according to the Children\u2019s Commission on Poverty survey published by the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrenssociety.org.uk\/\">Children\u2019s Society<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Also recently published:<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><br \/>\n<\/span>The Children\u2019s Commissioner&#8217;s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk\/content\/publications\/content_729\">analysis of disabled children\u2019s experiences of living in low income families<\/a>.<br \/>\n<\/span>This study consisted of interviews with 79 young disabled people and 17 parents; it is based on eight rights themes.\u00a0 A steering group of young disabled children selected the themes by looking at three human rights treaties.<br \/>\nThe report indicates that low income families with disabled children often struggle economically and do not always have the best access to services and provisions.<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><br \/>\n<\/span>Good resources for understanding child poverty in the UK are:<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cpag.org.uk\/child-poverty-facts-and-figures\">CPAG &#8211; the child poverty action grou<\/a>p&#8217;s <\/span>website has basic news, facts and figures about child<br \/>\npoverty in the UK<br \/>\n<span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.endchildpoverty.org.uk\/why-end-child-poverty\/poverty-in-your-area\">End Child Poverty Campaign <\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.jrf.org.uk\/work\/workarea\/child-poverty\">Joseph Rowntree Foundation.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>NCB &#8211; National Children&#8217;s Bureau<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Through young eyes \u2013 three million children are living in poverty in the UK according to the Children\u2019s Commission on Poverty survey published by the Children\u2019s Society Also recently published: The Children\u2019s Commissioner&#8217;s analysis of disabled children\u2019s experiences of living in low income families.
