{"id":57,"date":"2014-06-05T12:25:21","date_gmt":"2014-06-05T12:25:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/richardiii\/?p=57"},"modified":"2025-02-26T13:21:25","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T13:21:25","slug":"universities-week-and-adult-learners-week-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/richardiii\/2014\/06\/05\/universities-week-and-adult-learners-week-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Universities Week and Adult Learners&#8217; Week 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Putting some of the Richard III projects to one side for a moment, I thought I would write about the events of the next two weeks that I have been working on with colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>Firstly, Universities Week 2014 is 9-15 June.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Universities Week is run by Universities UK to highlight the research that takes place in our universities and the differences this research makes to everyone&#8217;s lives on a daily basis.\u00a0 This year we have a stand going down to the Natural History Museum as part of the Universities Week events, and this same stand will be in the Highcross Shopping Centre in Leicester on Saturday 14th June.\u00a0\u00a0 Come down and have a look.\u00a0 It is called Rotten Fish and Fossils and is a chance to see how rotting fish can provide evidence of evolution.\u00a0\u00a0 The stand also includes a chance to dig for fossils.<br \/>\nAs well as public events next week, we also have a teacher CPD session being hosted by Leicester Cathedral called <a title=\"Information and booking\" href=\"http:\/\/www.leicester.anglican.org\/events\/king-in-the-classroom\/\">The King in the Classroom<\/a>.\u00a0 This session is designed to show local teachers how Richard III can be used in project based learning and in other areas of the curriculum.\u00a0 We are aiming to provide more inspiration and resources for teachers so that the topic doesn&#8217;t get stuck in a rut of Plantagenets versus Tudors.<br \/>\nAnd on campus on 14th June is the <a title=\"Information and booking\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/study\/open-days\/focus-on-medicine-day\">Focus on Medicine Open Day<\/a> for any students thinking about studying medicine with us.<\/p>\n<p>Secondly, Adult Learners&#8217; Week is 14-20 June.\u00a0 We will begin this week on the stand in the Highcross Shopping Centre again.\u00a0\u00a0 As well as the Rotten Fish and Fossils stand you will be able to get information on courses that the University offers as part-time, distance learning and evening classes.\u00a0\u00a0 We will also be able to let you know about taster classes taking place on campus during the following week.\u00a0 More information on that is <a title=\"Information and booking\" href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/news\/blog\/2014-archive-1\/june\/get-a-flavour-of-studying-during-adult-learners2019-week\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After those two weeks there are more open days and more events to come!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Putting some of the Richard III projects to one side for a moment, I thought I would write about the events of the next two weeks that I have been working on with colleagues.
