{"id":96,"date":"2014-03-05T12:52:50","date_gmt":"2014-03-05T12:52:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/researcharchiving\/?p=96"},"modified":"2025-02-26T13:18:20","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T13:18:20","slug":"recent-most-popular-open-access-publications-range-across-seven-decades","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/researcharchiving\/2014\/03\/05\/recent-most-popular-open-access-publications-range-across-seven-decades\/","title":{"rendered":"Recent most popular Open Access publications range across seven decades"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019ve been taking a look at what has been most popular recently in our Open Access repository of University of Leicester research publications:<\/p>\n<p>Our most read <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/library\/find\/lra\">Leicester Research Archive<\/a> (LRA) publication over the last month was Halla Diyab&#8217;s 2008 Doctoral Thesis, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/2381\/7824\">Crossing the margin: minorities and marginality in the drama of Tennessee Williams<\/a>.&#8221; Controversy following <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.co.uk\/2014\/02\/12\/halla-diyab_n_4773794.html\">Dr Diyab&#8217;s appearance on the BBC discussing Syrian refugees<\/a> was recently in the news.<\/p>\n<p>Next comes Chow Yen Desmond Sim\u2019s 2002 Engineering Doctoral thesis, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/2381\/7444\">The propagation of VHF and UHF radio waves over sea paths<\/a>&#8221;\u00a0and then Hock Woon Chiang\u2019s 2012 EdD thesis, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/2381\/10171\">Young Singaporeans&#8217; Perspectives of Compulsory Military Conscription: How They Manage the National Service Experience in Relation to Their Education, Development and Careers<\/a>&#8221;\u00a0which was most read as far as we can tell from Singapore followed by the United States of America.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Justine Mercer, now Associate Professor at Warwick Institute of Education, wrote the next paper on our list for Oxford Review of Education in 2007, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/2381\/4677\">The challenges of insider research in educational institutions: wielding a double-edged sword and resolving delicate dilemmas<\/a>,&#8221; and then we have a book chapter, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/2381\/4809\">The evolution of diplomatic method<\/a>,&#8221; by Harold Nicolson from the Chichele Lectures delivered at the University of Oxford way back in November 1953.<\/p>\n<p>David Rodway Colley\u2019s 2012 Doctoral thesis, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/2381\/10132\">The Development of Nurture Groups in Secondary Schools<\/a>,&#8221; in the School of Education has been getting consistent download figures since we made it available.<\/p>\n<p>The 2005 paper, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/2381\/4655\">What is land cover?<\/a>&#8221;\u00a0by Alexis J. Comber, Peter F. Fisher and Richard A. Wadsworth is next on our list and was published in Environment and Planning B: Planning and Design. Then we have, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/2381\/9016\">Facebook, social integration and informal learning at university: &#8216;It is more for socialising and talking to friends about work than for actually doing work&#8217;<\/a>,&#8221; by four authors: Clare Madge, Julia Meek, Jane Wellens and Tristram Hooley in Learning, Media and Technology in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>In 1985, Traolach S. Brugha, Paul E. Bebbington, Christopher Tennant and Jane Hurry wrote &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/2381\/261\">The List of Threatening Experiences: a subset of 12 life event categories with considerable long-term contextual threat<\/a>&#8221;\u00a0in Psychological Medicine and this comes in our top ten downloads, 29 years after it was published.<\/p>\n<p>Also in our top ten is, &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/2381\/8132\">Mobile technologies and learning<\/a>&#8220;, published in the Futurelab Literature Review Series ten years ago in 2004, written by Laura Naismith, Peter Lonsdale, Giasemi N.
