A recording will be available soon.<\/p>\n<p>My part was on <strong>why<\/strong> a researcher might want to deposit their research in our archive.<\/p>\n<p>I collected some ideas in my previous post\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/researcharchiving\/2013\/07\/02\/whygreenoa\/\">Why Green Open Access?<\/a>\u00a0and came up with bullet points:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Broadcast your interesting important research<\/li>\n<li>&#8211;\u00a0Findable, readable, create global knowledge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can make your work readable by all, not just journal subscribers and make it more findable by potential collaborators, supporters and funders. Sharing research is part of the process producing global knowledge.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Increase your citations, your reputation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can increase both traditional and alternative (e.g. being mentioned in online fora) citations. This increases your reputation and the reputation of your institution. You can track this interest for yourself.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Collected, managed, showcased, preserved<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So you and others can find it again. Reuse by others, including ways you had never thought of.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep your supporters happy<\/li>\n<li>&#8211; Funder, University<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Open access is a funder and university requirement: from international and national movements \u2013 research should be shared!<\/p>\n<p>I think the session went well despite clashing with graduation.
