{"id":135,"date":"2014-10-08T11:19:05","date_gmt":"2014-10-08T11:19:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/researcharchiving\/?p=135"},"modified":"2025-02-26T13:18:20","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T13:18:20","slug":"ideas-for-tools-for-helping-with-open-access-publication","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/researcharchiving\/2014\/10\/08\/ideas-for-tools-for-helping-with-open-access-publication\/","title":{"rendered":"Ideas for tools for helping with Open Access publication"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I find tools from <a href=\"http:\/\/sherpa.ac.uk\/\">SHERPA <\/a>useful.<\/p>\n<p>I like to keep an eye on <strong>what I&#8217;d ideally like<\/strong> as well as what is currently available both for me and people I work with.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>tools to help with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.le.ac.uk\/openaccess\">Open Access<\/a> publishing<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><strong>For researchers<\/strong>: A <strong>clear choice between contractual choices<\/strong> for a journal, with a <strong>small number of standard (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/\">Creative Commons<\/a>) copyright choices<\/strong> and <strong>embargo periods<\/strong> for each. As a UK researcher, all options need to be <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hefce.ac.uk\/whatwedo\/rsrch\/rinfrastruct\/oa\/\">HEFCE <\/a>compliant<\/strong> and for funded researchers, the choice should be clear between choices that are <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.rcuk.ac.uk\/research\/openaccess\/\">RCUK <\/a>etc. compliant AND <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hefce.ac.uk\/whatwedo\/rsrch\/rinfrastruct\/oa\/\">HEFCE <\/a>compliant<\/strong>. This allows researchers to navigate the <a title=\"Compliance Venn Diagram\" href=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/researcharchiving\/2014\/02\/18\/compliance-venn-diagram\/\">Venn diagram constraining their options.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>For us in <strong>research support \/ repositories<\/strong>: Tell us:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>What <strong>rights statement<\/strong> we need to put in our <strong>metadata<\/strong> (usually a statement of journal of record)<\/li>\n<li>What <strong>embargo<\/strong> we need, if any<\/li>\n<li>What <strong>copyright statement<\/strong> we put. Ideally in <strong>both human and machine readable form<\/strong>, from a small number of possible standard (e.g. <a href=\"https:\/\/creativecommons.org\/\">Creative Commons<\/a>) copyright choices so our repositories can auto-fill fields.<\/li>\n<li>Ideally <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sherpa.ac.uk\/fact\/\">SHERPA FACT<\/a> would <strong>keep a persistent and trustworthy archive of the contractual situation at any date<\/strong> for journals etc. so we can <strong>refer back to the choices we made<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I find tools from SHERPA useful.
