{"id":12,"date":"2013-07-01T16:16:33","date_gmt":"2013-07-01T16:16:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/researcharchiving\/?p=12"},"modified":"2025-02-26T13:18:20","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T13:18:20","slug":"symplectic-5th-user-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/researcharchiving\/2013\/07\/01\/symplectic-5th-user-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"Symplectic 5th user conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On 28 May 2013 I went to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.symplectic.co.uk\/news-events\/2013\/04\/26\/5th-annual-user-conference\/\">5th of Symplectic&#8217;s user conferences<\/a>\u00a0at Woburn House in London.<\/p>\n<p>We use their Elements product for our<a href=\"https:\/\/swww2.le.ac.uk\/offices\/researchsupport\/tools\/iris-1\/iris\"> Integrated Research Information System (IRIS)<\/a>: for\u00a0the University of Leicester\u2019s\u00a0internal\u00a0research data management.<\/p>\n<p>Elements sits connected to many sources of publication information and presents researchers with\u00a0an online CV of \u00a0their publications and links to how they are being cited and assorted measures of their research impact.<\/p>\n<p>Even having read the very glossy brochure I wasn&#8217;t sure what information Elements pulled together, what added combination it did and what it could present. We can use IRIS to submit publications to <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/library\/find\/lra\">Leicester Research Archive \u00a0(LRA)<\/a>\u00a0so I was interested in knowing how that worked and what we could add in the future. I&#8217;ll also be reading up on alternative ways of doing this.<\/p>\n<p>I found the day was a good mixture of corporate overview (I do find it helpful to know this is a small company with a growing London technical team and sales people from US who come over to UK conferences), explanation of new features, meeting the support team and more detail of how the application programming interface (API) works (Yay code!)<\/p>\n<p>I hope to keep in contact with staff from other universities who are working on similar systems with similar aims.
