<\/em><\/strong>

Our Community:\u00a0<\/strong>This month, we’re introducing our\u00a0“Conversations”<\/a>posts with profiles of two members of our School,\u00a0Dr. Simon Vaughn<\/a> and\u00a0Cassiopeia Lakin<\/a> – we hope to expand this series so that everyone in our community get know one another.\u00a0 These are in addition to the superb\u00a0series of newsletters<\/a> prepared by our EDI and PGR teams for\u00a0Black History Month<\/a>.\u00a0 Finally, Leicester has just launched a brand-new\u00a0Space Engineering Technician<\/a> apprenticeship, the very first of its kind.


Our Research:\u00a0<\/strong>October featured ‘World Space Week’ where we celebrated\u00a0six decades of Leicester space science<\/a>.\u00a0 The BepiColombo mission, carrying Leicester hardware, made a close flyby of Venus on its way to Mercury, and we took the opportunity to\u00a0introduce the MIXS team<\/a>.\u00a0 This month also saw the successful verification of the first-ever Lobster X-ray optics assembly<\/a> for the Chinese-French satellite, SVOM.\u00a0 And see how Leicester Earth Observers are involved in the\u00a0NASA-JAXA Global Precipitation Measurement<\/a> mission.


New Opportunities:\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Lose yourself in the\u00a0Mariner-9 Mars exhibit\u00a0<\/a>at the Attenborough Arts Centre.\u00a0 Join\u00a0Libby Jackson<\/a> (UK Space Agency) in a live Q&A session hosted by the Space Centre on November 4th, to celebrate two decades of work on the International Space Station.\u00a0 Early-career researchers can enter the\u00a0STEM for Britain<\/a> Poster Competition; members of AstRoSoc can take part in weekly challenges with the\u00a0Kerbal Space Program<\/a>; and students can consider entering the\u00a0Telespazio Technology Contest<\/a>.\u00a0 Don’t forget that all are welcome to our regular\u00a0AstroSeminars and PlanetarySeminars<\/a>, with details given on the blog.
