{"id":1245,"date":"2021-09-13T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2021-09-13T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/physicsastronomy\/?p=1245"},"modified":"2025-02-26T13:37:28","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T13:37:28","slug":"congratulations-to-dr-jennifer-carter-for-being-awarded-a-dorothy-hodgkin-fellowship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/physicsastronomy\/2021\/09\/13\/congratulations-to-dr-jennifer-carter-for-being-awarded-a-dorothy-hodgkin-fellowship\/","title":{"rendered":"Congratulations to Dr Jennifer Carter for being awarded a Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em><strong>Dr Jennifer Carter was one of five academics appointed as a Dorothy Hodgkin Fellow for 2021<\/strong>.<\/em><br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Royal Society <a href=\"https:\/\/royalsociety.org\/grants-schemes-awards\/grants\/dorothy-hodgkin-fellowship\/\">Dorothy Hodgkin fellowship<\/a> scheme offers a recognised first step in an independent research career for outstanding post-doctoral scientists who require a flexible working pattern due to personal circumstances such as parenting and caring responsibilities or health-related reasons.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Five academics around the country were awarded the fellowship in 2021 and Dr Carter&#8217;s work on the Solar Wind Magnetosphere Ionosphere Link<em> (<\/em>SMILE). Dr Carter is currently researching solar-terrestrial physics, investigating the effect of solar wind on the Earth\u2019s magnetic environment.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/physicsastronomy\/files\/2021\/12\/Jenny.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1246\" width=\"334\" height=\"283\" srcset=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/physicsastronomy\/files\/2021\/12\/Jenny.jpg 667w, https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/physicsastronomy\/files\/2021\/12\/Jenny-300x254.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 334px) 100vw, 334px\" \/><figcaption>Dr Jennifer Carter<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The fellowship has been appointed for Dr Carter&#8217;s work on SMILE, where she will be investigating how the magnetopause moves and changes through magnetic reconnection.
