{"id":11,"date":"2014-06-16T16:15:29","date_gmt":"2014-06-16T16:15:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/pgrcareers\/?p=11"},"modified":"2025-02-26T13:25:56","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T13:25:56","slug":"latest-news-in-career-management-provision-for-university-of-leicester-phd-researchers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/pgrcareers\/2014\/06\/16\/latest-news-in-career-management-provision-for-university-of-leicester-phd-researchers\/","title":{"rendered":"Latest news in career management provision for University of Leicester PhD researchers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Engineering YES team make it through to the final<\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/pgrcareers\/files\/2015\/03\/Careers-blog.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-12 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/pgrcareers\/files\/2015\/03\/Careers-blog.png\" alt=\"Engineering YES\" width=\"200\" height=\"152\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Engineering YES is a training competition, for PhD researchers, in which participants pitch a fictional business plan to potential investors.\u00a0 Participants work in teams over a period of three days to develop their business concept, with advice and support being provided by industry and business experts.\u00a0 The University of Leicester team developed a business idea around a paint designed to reduce a building\u2019s vulnerability to earthquake damage.<\/p>\n<p>Engineering YES 2014 saw the first ever team from the University of Leicester to enter the competition secure a place in the finals by coming runners-up in their heat. The team consisting of Stephan Hug and Xingzhong Liang from Engineering, with Andrea Giugliano from Computer Science, narrowly lost out to one of the UCL teams in what the organisers called the &#8220;closest heat yet&#8221;.\u00a0 The University of Leicester secured the prize for &#8220;best teamwork&#8221;. The finals will be held on the 18th of June at the Birmingham Science Park with competing teams from Bath, Nottingham, UCL, Warwick and Loughborough University. Good luck to the team in Wednesday&#8217;s final.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Biotechnology YES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Entries have now closed for Biotechnology YES 2014.
