{"id":167,"date":"2013-10-28T18:15:51","date_gmt":"2013-10-28T18:15:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/mars\/2013\/10\/28\/28th-october-2013-sol-436\/"},"modified":"2025-02-26T13:28:38","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T13:28:38","slug":"28th-october-2013-sol-436","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/mars\/2013\/10\/28\/28th-october-2013-sol-436\/","title":{"rendered":"28th October 2013 Sol 436"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Today is a soliday on Mars and no science activities.\u00a0 We are parked close to our next Waypoint called Cooperstown.\u00a0 We will be getting full resolution MastCam images over the next few days of a large outcrop that we are aiming for.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile there\u00a0is a\u00a0\u00a0public NASA-hosted \u00a0conference about the next Curiosity-class rover &#8211; called Mars2020 as it is due for launch in mid 2020.\u00a0 The power source (plutonium) and basic structure, together with Skycrane Entry, Descent and Landing will be the same as for MSL.\u00a0 However, Mars2020 will have a sample caching system &#8211; the first part of Mars Sample Return (MSR).\u00a0 A separate, later mission will be needed to retrieve the cached samples and put them in Mars orbit,\u00a0using a Mars Ascent Vehicle (rocket).\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Today is a soliday on Mars and no science activities.\u00a0 We are parked close to our next Waypoint called Cooperstown.\u00a0 We will be getting full resolution MastCam images over the next few days of a large outcrop that we are aiming for.
