{"id":15,"date":"2014-02-18T11:54:30","date_gmt":"2014-02-18T11:54:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/loproject\/?p=15"},"modified":"2025-02-26T13:24:00","modified_gmt":"2025-02-26T13:24:00","slug":"loblogs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/loproject\/2014\/02\/18\/loblogs\/","title":{"rendered":"Learning outcomes in higher education: what&#8217;s being blogged?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/loproject\/files\/2014\/02\/What-being-blogged.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-13\" style=\"width: 259px;height: 257px\" alt=\"Learning outcomes tagxedo\" src=\"https:\/\/staffblogs.le.ac.uk\/loproject\/files\/2014\/02\/What-being-blogged-296x300.jpg\" width=\"253\" height=\"246\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Welcome to the first blog of the \u2018Learning Outcomes\u2019 project at the University of Leicester (UoL).\u00a0 Most people will be aware that there is currently much focus on developing, or further embedding, a learning outcomes approach in UK higher education (i.e. \u2018By the end of this module, students will be able to\u2026).\u00a0 This focus has led to the development of a project at UoL that is investigating how students and academic staff understand and <i>actually use<\/i> learning outcomes.\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">As part of this project we have spent a lot of time reviewing the published literature on learning outcomes (LOs).\u00a0 Before we began this blog though, we were curious to see what opinions have been expressed about LOs in other blogs.\u00a0 Below are some interesting links that I\u2019ve found: <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/learningsnippets.wordpress.com\/2013\/09\/22\/from-learning-outcomes-to-performance-outcomes\/\" target=\"_blank\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">http:\/\/learningsnippets.wordpress.com\/2013\/09\/22\/from-learning-outcomes-to-performance-outcomes\/\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;font-size: medium\"><span style=\"color: #000000\">Snippet from Matthew Guyan\u2019s post:<\/span>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #808080\"> <em>\u2018why don\u2019t we call them Performance Outcomes? No, definitely not. Professors have other goals. For instance, I wanted my advanced research methods students to be able to talk intelligently about the limits of research studies when talking to their families about the latest story about infant abilities in Time Magazine. Is this a learning outcome?
