This was the first event in our calendar, and it was a resounding success. Held in the Digital Reading Room, in the David Wilson Library, we set up our kit and iPads and got started.<\/h3>\n<p>Video can be used for learning and teaching in a wide variety of ways. <a href=\"https:\/\/www235.lamp.le.ac.uk\/current-projects\/college-of-science-engineering-201718\/chemistry\/\">Nikita Lack, Richard Blackburn and Paul Cullis<\/a> in Chemistry have used videos of molecular model making as a pre-lecture resource. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dip.le.ac.uk\/project-focus-flipping-the-classroom\/\">Sundeep Watkins and Hannah Jarvis<\/a> in Physiotherapy have created short videos to introduce staff as part of a pre-arrival resource on Blackboard for new students. And <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/geology\/people\/gabbott-s\">Sarah Gabbott<\/a> in Geology gets students to create videos on geological issues for the general public as an assignment. Videos are an exciting way to take the audience to a different environment, and learning how to produce and edit them is a useful skill, and yet, surprisingly simple to get started with.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Mobbs gave an excellent introduction to planning video production, the slides of which are below:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"border: 1px solid #CCC;border-width: 1px;margin-bottom: 5px;max-width: 100%\" src=\"\/\/www.slideshare.net\/slideshow\/embed_code\/key\/vx0Tmg5rHa94yr\" width=\"595\" height=\"485\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"> <\/iframe><\/p>\n<div style=\"margin-bottom: 5px\"><strong> <a title=\"Video production presentation\" href=\"\/\/www.slideshare.net\/DrAlexandraPatel\/video-production-presentation-124774010\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Video production presentation<\/a> <\/strong> from <strong><a href=\"\/\/www.slideshare.net\/DrAlexandraPatel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alexandra Patel<\/a><\/strong><\/div>\n<p>We also used the following resources during the #LearningCommunity event:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/DrAlexandraPatel\/video-tips-hand-out\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Making Educational videos handout<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.slideshare.net\/DrAlexandraPatel\/video-storyboard-template-124774011\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Story board template<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=qcKnXuW4EHc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">60-second video example<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We then got started with hands on planning of story boards, videoing and editing. We used iPads to record raw footage, and the powerful and intuitive iMovie software to edit it.
