One strand of the project has been experimenting with new ways of using our <a href=\"https:\/\/specialcollections.le.ac.uk\/digital\/collection\/p16445coll4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Historical Directories<\/a> collection. Daniel Wilson from the project has written <a href=\"https:\/\/livingwithmachines.ac.uk\/directory-enquiries-machine-learning-to-unlock-radical-historical-context-part-two\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a blog post<\/a> this week getting into the technical side of this.<br><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The workshop I attended around Christmas was focused on testing computer vision methods &#8211; how to get a computer to &#8216;read&#8217; images (rather than words). If you have had a go with Dall-E or Stable Diffusion recently, similar ideas are lying behind how those tools work.
