The small grants of up to \u00a32,500 will further boost the School of Management\u2019s profile in this area since it merged with the Centre for Labour Market Studies (CLMS).<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Some of the released funding will be used to stimulate new areas of research such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/iclark\">Ian Clark<\/a>\u2019s research on car washes,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/srobinson\">Sarah Robinson<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/eweik\">Elke Weik<\/a>\u2019s examination of the key actors and communities of practice in the developing market for English wine and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/randrijasevic\">Rutvica Andrijasevic<\/a>\u2019s exploration of the high-profile electronics manufacturer Foxconn\u2019s Turkish-based operations. The funding will also be used to extend and develop work which is already under-way. <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/vbeck\">Vanessa Beck<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/gwilliams\">Glynne Williams<\/a> will use the funding to help them look at the effects of performance management on older workers in the increasingly pressurised library sector,<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/swood\">Stephen Wood<\/a> will explore the experiences of young workers using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/collections\/workplace-employment-relations-study-wers\">Workplace Employment Relations Study<\/a> (WERS), <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/pbrook\">Paul Brook<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/bcarter\">Bob Carter<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/jgrady\">Jo Grady<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/wgreen\">Will Green<\/a> will undertake a small study of early career NHS clinicians and <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/cgrocott\">Chris Grocott<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/jgrady\">Jo Grady<\/a> will explore the historical development of anarchism within trade unions in Gibraltar.<\/p>\n<p>Not all of the funding will be used to generate primary research either: support has also been given for high impact dissemination activities such as <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/hoconnor\">Henrietta O\u2019 Connor<\/a>\u2019s conference on research methods using <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/news\/events\/2014\/january\/working-with-paradata-marginalia-and-fieldnotes-the-centrality-of-by-products-of-social-research\">paradata and marginalia<\/a>. Similarly, <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/jgoodwin\">John Goodwin<\/a> has received funding to help support the upcoming conference that will focus on the groundbreaking work of the sociologist\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/sociology\/research\/conferences-and-workshops-1\/from-the-past-to-the-present-and-towards-possible-futures-the-collected-works-of-norbert-elias\">Norbert Elias<\/a> while\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/mquinn\">Martin Quinn<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/rcourtney\">Richard Courtney<\/a> have both been funded to attend the high profile and prestigious <a href=\"http:\/\/www.isa-sociology.org\/congress2014\/\">World Congress of the International Sociological Association<\/a> to present their work on heritage in the age of austerity. The funding will also be used to research the experience of students in our teaching provision. Toward this end,<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/kventer\">Katharine Venter<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www2.le.ac.uk\/departments\/management\/people\/hashton\">Heidi Ashton<\/a> will undertake a study comparing the experiences of campus-based and distance learning students which should provide interesting and important results for the School\u2019s teaching practice.<\/p>\n<p>All of these projects have clear objectives with many forming the basis of future research outputs in the form of papers, discussion documents and policy advice.
